  • Paola Parente is a pathologist with expertise in neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and pancreas, in haematopathology and in cytopathology. She received her medical education and her specialty training in Surgical Pathology at the Cattolica del Sacro Cuore University, Rome. She received a particular gastro-intestinal training at the University of Padua with Prof. Massimo Rugge (2007-2010). She earned a Master degree in Molecular Pathology at the Federico II University, Naples, with Prof. Giancarlo Troncone and Prof. Umberto Malapelle (2019). She achieved Academic Professional Qualification of ‘Associate Professor in Pathology’ from Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca (MIUR) (31 January 2022). At present, she is working full time at the Pathology Unit of the Research Hospital “Fondazione IRCCS Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza” and she contributes to the Clinical Research with active role in the current scientific projects of the IRCCS and own international collaborations. She focused her education on both neoplastic and non-neoplastic gastro-intestinal pathology, haematopathology and cytology, combining, on a daily basis, diagnostic practice, educational activities and research in these topics. In particular, pre-analitic phase handling in histologic and cytologic samples and innovative biomarkers to be included into clinical practice are the principal area of interest. On these topics, she has been delivering speeches since 2007 in national courses (more than 10/year), has published more than 120 articles peer-reviewed in international scientific journals with IF (until July 2023), and co-authored 2 books' chapters of Medicine. She is reviewer for Journals with an IF. She edited four Special Issues for Pathologica. She is an active member of the Italian Society of Pathology (SIAPeC-IAP) and scientific secretary of the GIPAD (Italian Group of Gastro-Intestinal Pathology) section. From 2020, she is speaker/consultant for MSD and Astellas.
