  • Rafael Coveñas Rodríguez was born in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz, Spain) on September 1957. In June 1980, I obtained a degree in Biological Sciences (Faculty of Biology, University of Seville, Spain) and in November 1982, a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (Faculty of Biology, University of Seville, Spain). From 1982 to 1987, I was a post-doctoral teaching associate (Faculty of Biology, University of Seville, Spain). Since July 1987, I have been Associate Professor of Cell Biology at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Salamanca (Spain). Since July 1998, I have worked at the Institute of Neuroscience of Castilla y León (INCYL, Spain). At this Institute, I am the head of Laboratory 14 (Neuroanatomy of Peptidergic Systems Laboratory). During 1983-1984 I was the recipient of a Research Fellowship from the French Government to work at the Institut de Neurobiologie des Signaux Intercellulaires (University Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI), France) and in 1992 I received a Research Fellowship from the Spanish Government to work at the Department of Histology and Neurobiology (Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden). My specific areas of interest are: 1) Peptides: distribution and functions in the mammalian central nervous system and, 2) Peptides and Cancer.
