Short Bio
- Dr. Marchetti, tumor and molecular biologist, is an internationally-recognized authority in the characterization of Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs) directly isolated from patients, CTC biomarkers, and CTC testing as clinically useful tools to combat cancer metastasis, notably to brain. With keen insights into the biology of brain metastasis, he pioneered discoveries of CTC signatures underlying brain metastasis, and CTC biomarker properties (Science Transl. Med., 2013; Nature Medicine, 2015; Nature Comm., 2017; Nat. Rev. Clin. Onc., 2017; Cancer Research, 2018; Cancers, 2020, 2021 among others). As a consummate scientist, Dr. Marchetti’s bibliography include 230 publications of which 95 are in peer-reviewed journals in the fields of neuroscience and oncology. He has received numerous awards and secured a 32-years uninterrupted funding from NIH, along with other federal, state, institutional and private agencies. He is a reviewer for the most prominent journals in cancer research and sits on numerous editorial boards. He also acts as guest editor of special issues on brain metastasis and CTCs, and served/serves on grant reviewing panels of NIH, AACR, and other agencies. Dr. Marchetti recently became member of the breast cancer grants scientific review committee of the American Association of Cancer Research, nominated by Dr. Margaret Foti, CEO of the AACR.
