- Dr. Kumarappan Chidambaram is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia. He is registered as a Pharmacist and obtained his PhD in Endocrine Pharmacology at the University of Jadavpur at Kolkata in 2008. Dr Kumar is involved in the teaching of teaching basic and clinical pharmacology for Medical (MBBS Program, KKU, College of Medicine), Pharmacy and other allied medical students within the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy. He utilizes active learning techniques, such as Team-Based Learning, Case-Based, and Problem-Based Learning, to enhance the understanding of pharmacology within clinical contexts. He is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP), the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS), the International Society for Ethnopharmacology (ISE) and the Quality Assurance Committee of KKU. Dr Kumar has participated in and developed a pharmacology curriculum in medicine and pharmacy at undergraduate and graduate levels and content for undergraduate and postgraduate professional education. He has published extensively on type2 diabetes mellitus and natural products. He is the author and co-author of >101 research publications (>1310 citations since 2007, h-index: 19). Since completing his PhD in 2008, he has successfully supervised 2 MS-Research, 10 Honours, and 8 graduate research students to completion and is currently supervising 1 PhD student affiliated with Taylor’s University, Malaysia. Dr Kumar's research is focused on the mechanism underlying the development of the metabolic syndrome and developing therapeutics to prevent, delay and cure diabetes mellitus. His research activities as principal investigator range from experimental pharmacology to drug discovery from natural products. Dr Kumar regularly acts as a peer reviewer of papers submitted to various international journals.
