- Paula A. Oliveira graduated in 1996 in Veterinary Medicine, at Universidade de Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD); completed in 2001 a master's degree in Oncology from the University of Porto, and in 2006 a PhD in veterinary sciences at UTAD. In 2003, she was awarded with a PhD fellowship sponsored by FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. Her PhD thesis was developed at UTAD, University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and Instituto Português de Oncologia. She is habilitated in Veterinary Sciences since 2010. Paula Oliveira has been a professor at UTAD since 1993. Over these 29 years she has taught: anatomy, pharmacology, therapeutics, toxicology, and animal experimentation. Her research focuses from the beginning on two different lines of research: the implementation and analysis of animal models for the study of the biopathological mechanisms of diseases, to evaluate new therapies, analyse chemoprevention measures and the interference of lifestyles in diseases development; and to study the biological effects of heavy metals exposition on birds and mammals. Paula A. Oliveira has so far participated in nine funded projects; of these five were financed by FCT and she was the principal investigator for one of them; two were established with the pharmaceutical industry; one with the Karolisnka Institute (Sweden) and the other with funds from the European Regional Development Fund. Paula A. Oliveira has so far supervises/supervised 15 PhD students, 37 Masters students, more than 55 undergraduate students and supervised 21 students with research grants. Paula A. Oliveira has an h index of 27, with 2458 citations. She has published 166 articles in ISI/SCOPUS journals, 90 abstracts in ISI/Scopus journals and 15 international book chapters. She presented 35 lectures by invitation. She received more than 30 awards of scientific and academic character. It has international partnerships with researchers from Spain (University of Léon, University of Santiago de Compostela and University of Madrid) and national partnerships with Universities in Aveiro, Porto and Beira Interior.
