  • Dr. Virginia Fuochi is an accomplished researcher and Assistant Professor at the University of Catania, specifically within the Department of Biomedical and Biotechnological Sciences (BIOMETEC), where she focuses on microbiology. She holds a Pharm.D. and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Microbiological Sciences from the University of Catania. Dr. Fuochi's research expertise spans the treatment of bacterial and fungal cultures, viral infections, and the evaluation of antimicrobial and probiotic properties. She has extensive experience with both classic and molecular microbiology techniques. Her work includes significant contributions to understanding the human microbiome, particularly in characterizing probiotic strains and antimicrobial peptides from lactic acid bacteria. Throughout her career, Dr. Fuochi has held various academic and research positions. Notably, she served as a Research Fellow and Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Catania and as a Guest Researcher at the University of Oslo. Her research projects have covered a wide range of topics, from functional proteomics to the antimicrobial activity of natural products and synthetic drugs. In addition to her research roles, Dr. Fuochi has been an adjunct professor at both the International University of Gorazde and the University of Catania, where she taught courses on microbiology and biotechnology. She has also contributed as an editorial board member and guest editor for several scientific journals. Dr. Fuochi has published numerous articles in high-impact journals, addressing topics such as the antimicrobial properties of essential oils, the therapeutic potential of probiotics, and the biological properties of natural substances.
