- Dimiter Avtanski, PhD, currently holds the positions of Director at the Endocrine Research Laboratory at the Friedman Diabetes Institute of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, Associate Professor of Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in Hempstead, NY, and Assistant Professor at the Institute of Bioelectronic Medicine at Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research in Manhasset, NY. He also serves as an Associate Editor for the journals Molecular Medicine and BMC Endocrine Disorders and holds numerous Guest Editor and Editorial Board Member positions in multiple journals. Dr. Avtanski's academic journey began in Bulgaria, where he earned his M.Sc. degree in Biology and Chemistry from Sofia University. He later obtained his Ph.D. from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in collaboration with Beth Israel Medical Center at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. He completed two post-doctoral fellowships at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, where he specialized in Pediatric Endocrinology and Oncology. His research primarily focuses on the connections between obesity, diabetes, steroidogenesis, and carcinogenesis.
